A little shy

Recently I saw an advertisement for McGill's graduate student society's nature photo contest and auction. The contest is pretty much just for fun, with a few small prizes for the winners. The photos are printed, displayed and auctioned off as a charity fund raiser.
Believe me, I am *well* aware that I'm no expert, I understand I would barely reach a novice category - but the contest states nothing about level of expertise, just a submit a photo, then they display them (it doesn't even say anything about displaying only the top ten or anything), and all are auctioned off with proceeds going to a local charity. Each grad student is allowed to submit one photo only, and it must be a shot of nature. That's all the poster specifies. What do you think? Should I try? What do you think of either of these?

Don't be shy. Anyway, although I really like the two you've posted, I like this other one by you more (no offense!!) - the one with the stairs in it. Can you have stairs in your nature photo? I also like the one with the grass, rocks and water.

Thanks Tiffany! That's so awesome that you remembered one and actually went and looked it up. I'm not sure if stairs are allowed, but that one sure looks 'nature-y'. I'll think about it.

What does anyone else think?

Also, I've added my first-ever poll to see what reader' opinions are. I guess your answer, Tiffany, would be number 3?

Oh no no no!!! Not number three. I'm still trying to decide between 1 and 2, that's all. Another one I liked, but I couldn't find (and you'll know I liked it because I actually remember it) is the one with the canoes on the water. I think they're tied to a dock. I really really liked that one too. It's actually the one I was looking for. Do you suppose canoes are allowed?

Oops, I thought number 4 was number 3. I forgot about #3.

Now I'm all worried that you think I don't like your picture! It's not that I don't - I like pictures where people focus on on blades of grass, or a single flower in a field of flowers, etc., but I REALLY like when there's more stuff. Like the canoes, or the stairs, etc. You know what I mean!

Alright, alright - I'll vote for #3. But NOT because I don't like your picture, but because I like when there's more stuff. Nothing to do with your photographic skills.

See what you've gone and done? You've got me all flustered!

I say go for it! I like both, but think I like the second one better. BUT I think I like the canoe one best. I went back far enough to find it and it's absolutely fabulous. But you're the photographer so it's up to you! Nice work!

See! I knew the canoe one was the best. I think I even showed it to Steven when you first posted it. It's absolutely calendar-esque.

I think you should definately submit a photo! I can't decide which one though. They're all so good. I'll vote #1 because I love the colors!

Well I'm going with #5. It's right under the picture of the stairs, long grass along the river ?(lake) with beautiful rocks.

The Fall pic is nice, but I think fall is often used by people, b/c the colors make really 'easy pics'...dare I say :) So, I would go with the Rice, I don't know which canoe pic Tiffany was speaking of, it sounds nice.
Altho the rice paddy pic is a 'one color', it does have dimension and the name could sell the pic too.
