is it possible to buy decaf coffee beans? I have not yet discovered them, altho I haven't looked very hard. Maybe for the next year, I'll just stick to my decaf Tim's :)
That drink looks great however!
Yup...Most 'decaffeination' processes actually take place at the bean level, thus decaffeinated coffee beans (and espresso beans) are available on the market. However, demand for decaf in the market seems to be at the 'ground' level, making decaf beans a bit difficult to find. Decaf ground, on the other hand, isn't.
It should be noted that 4-5 cups of decaf is often the equivalent in caffeine content to 1 regular cup of coffee, as decaffeination processes seldom remove all caffeine. That being said, recent research from some top end scientific journals claim that moderate caffeine intake during pregnancy, especially during the last trimester, has no detrimental effect on the fetus. (This is what the current Canadian recommendations are based off of: limit caffeine intake to the equivalent of 1cup of coffee/day). But be sure to take into consideration soft drinks and chocolate when 'calculating' caffeine intake.
Probably the most important aspect of these findings is to offer pregnant woman an alternative to taking "no-no" headache medication during pregnancy. A cup-o-Joe is great for busting head aches.
Happy brewing! (or Timmin', whichever the case may be.)
i don't drink coffee on a daily basis, before or after pregnancy. Lately I was drinking a cup of tea a day...thus I switched to decaf tea. And when I do have a cup of tim's or my Mom-in-law makes me java I take the decaf. I'm sure one a day wouldn't hurt, but why give baby something it doesn't need. I'd rather save those 'doesn't need' moments for a home baked dessert :)
And thankfully I'm not susceptible to headaches, so haven't had to worry bout headache meds. Right now I do have a sinus head cold, it was all in my head last night, the pressure!, but I find sleeping works.
that was a great dose of info...thanks dear!
